Campaigners will simulate dying tomorrow (Saturday) to highlight the effects of consumerism on the planet.
'The UK Parliament and many others have declared a climate emergency,’ said an XR spokesperson.
’Part of this emergency is due to rampant consumerism. We are stuck in a toxic system that encourages us to continue business as usual and seek happiness and fulfilment through buying more "stuff" whilst ignoring the consequences.
’As the demand for goods increases, the need to produce these goods also increases leading to more pollution, increased land use and deforestation, and accelerated climate change.’
Climate change is already affecting many people in poorer countries and will hit us here, too, says local member Sally, 34.
’People need to wake up and recognise that we are facing an emergency.’
