A ROYAL Marine based at HMS Raleigh in Torpoint is preparing to pound the streets of Washington DC when he takes part in the US Marine Corps Marathon.
Physical Training Instructor Sergeant Rob Garthland, 33, is one of 30,000 taking part in the race on October 27.
Starting near the Pentagon, the course takes runners past landmarks such as the Capitol Building and the White House, finishing at the US Marine Corps War Memorial.
Rob will be running in boots and fatigues and carrying a heavy rucksack to raise money for the Royal British Legion.
