MORE than £1,600 has been shared between Children's Hospice South West and a youth football club thanks to a sponsored walk. The hospice and and Callington Colts Football Club shared £1,633.70 raised by Dave Collins, vice chairman of the Colts club, who took 21 days last August to walk the 273 miles from Minehead to Penzance. Accepting the cheque for hospice was Gwyneth McLoughlin, chairman of the Liskeard friends, and its treasurer Sue Brown. Gwyneth said that the hospice receives very little Government funding and she said that she couldn't thank Mr Collins enough for his efforts. 'We offer a huge thank you to Dave. Anybody who undertakes a task such as this to raise sponsorship can't be thanked enough,' she said. 'It costs two million pounds a year to run Littlebridge House in Barnstaple and a new hospice is being opened on April 2 at Charlton Farm near Bristol to help relieve the pressure'. Callington Colts treasurer Andrew Farr was pleased with the sponsorship raised for the colts club. 'With Dave, its always one scheme or another which helps raise funds,' he said. 'Dave works so hard and the sheer physical effort he put in not only for this sponsorship but in the many others he does is testament to his passion, not only for the local youngsters at our club who want to play football, but also for far more deserving causes such as the hospice.'
