EAST Looe man Paul Barley has completed the final stages of his preparations for this weekend's London Marathon. The gruelling 26-mile race, which starts at Greenwich and finishes at Buckingham Palace on Sunday, is Paul's first full distance marathon after completing in the Silverstone Half Marathon in March. Paul, 43, works for a property development company and has been living in Cornwall for six years. He will be running for the national charity Sense, who support and campaign for children and adults that are deaf and blind. Paul said: 'Despite the recent bad weather, my training is going well. 'Due to work commitments I always train in the morning, so at the moment I am doing short jogs during the week and complete longer runs at the weekend. 'I'm running distances of about 12-15 miles now. 'I've always admired marathon runners and when I took up running last year to keep fit, I didn't think I'd be able to run long distances. 'It's fantastic that my dream of competing in the London Marathon will soon become a reality and that I'll be able to help a charity like Sense at the same time.' Anyone wanting to sponsor Paul should contact the Sense marathon line on 020 7272 7858.
