A major road into Looe will close tomorrow (Saturday February 16) for eight weeks’ work to install a new and upgraded drainage system.

St Martin’s Road will be closed with a diversion in place via Morval and Sandplace. Cormac is aiming for the work to be complete by April 13 in time for the Easter holidays.

Buses will be following an alternative timetable via the A387 and a shuttlebus will be in operation to serve the Barbican area of Looe, the Looe Bay Holiday Park, Tregoad and No Man’s Land.

The Riverside car park in East Looe will be open for free to parents to help them get their children to school on the Barbican; passes for the car park have been made available through schools.

Mayor of Looe Armand Toms said that there was ‘never a good time to close such an important road’ but that it was better to shut the road completely to get the work done, than have it partly open with traffic lights for a longer period, which would cause more disruption.

Cormac has set up a designated webpage with information about the closure and maps. The page includes responses to questions asked by local people.
