A staff member at Torpoint Community College (TCC) has gone way out of her comfort zone – in order to bring adventure to as many students as possible. Lynn Trotter’s latest challenge was to jump out of a plane on a tandem skydive, an experience she described as ‘wonderful, scary and awesome’. Previously Lynn, who is PA to the headteacher at TCC as well as being Duke of Edinburgh Award manager at the school, had run the Plymouth half marathon, completing the race despite a painful pulled calf muscle. Thanks to Lynn’s efforts and the support of the community, around £1,300 has already been raised towards Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) Award scheme equipment and training days. Lynn’s motivation was to enable all students, regardless of their means, to participate in the scheme. Support for the fundraising has come from a variety of sources, including a crowdfunding website, a large donation for kit from the Torpoint Lions, cake sales and pyjama days at TCC and at Fourlanesend Primary School, and a donation from Browne Jacobson solicitors. ‘Words can’t explain what an experience the skydive was,’ said Lynn. ‘The DofE students are hugely appreciative of all the support that has been given.’
