Lux Park squash players triumphed over Falmouth to take home the Pawle Cup for the first time - despite the fact that Falmouth, on paper at least, were the stronger side, with four of their players higher in the rankings than the Liskeard team.
Sam Balsdon was first on against Falmouth's Dave Lillie. Sam's experience showed as he took the first game comfortably 9-3. However, his fitness problems became evident as Dave stepped up a gear, winning the next three games.
Next Steve moore turned on the style against Jerry Thomas, playing some excellent length shots, tight drops and nick killing shots. His opponent had no answer to the barrage of superb shots and was later heard to say that Steve's secret was his tight shorts! Lux Park's no.1 player Paul Lamey was up against Falmouth's Gary Angave. Devon County player Paul found the accuracy of Gary's game too much, and quickly lost 0-3.
This left Lux Park 2-1 down with two matches to go, with their opponents in buoyant mood. But inspirational captain Andy Jackson was on hand with his best squash of the season, overpowering Chris Renowden 3-0, although the final encounter was tense.
Oliver Jones was pitted against a player ranked 10 places higher than himself, Alan Moody. The match was tightly fought throughout but Oliver came through in the end - and Lux Park were the proud winners of the Pawle Cup for the first time.
