POLPERRO Pre-School Playgroup which received a lottery grant of £4,172 has been on an exciting spending spree and has purchased many new items. These include new carpet, dressing up clothes, furniture, outdoor equipment, bikes and cones, play equipment, a revamped book corner, a tape recorder, V-tech computers, sandpit, water play, authentic dolls and dresses and much more.

They have also received the results of their Ofsted inspection which took place back in July and are very pleased with the report.

It says the pre-school provides a happy and stimulating educational environment. There is a good range of enjoyable activities with personal and social development being a good feature, with the children happy, confident and well-behaved.

Creative development is a strong feature and the children are provided with many opportunities to use their imagination through role play, art, craft and music. Exploration of sound is particularly well promoted.

The quality of teaching and assessment is good. Good links exist between the playgroup, parents and carers. Staff are enthusiastic and work very hard to provide a positive and enjoyable experience for the children. They are ably led by a competent and sensitive supervisor.

The staff have already implemented the three key issues for action by providing daily opportunities for children to develop their writing skills and to exploit practical activities for adding and subtracting, also by improving their planning and evaluation system.
