LAST weekend saw one of the busist days of the year, 176 Golfers taking part in the Looe Golf Club Gues Day; it was a treat to see sunshine from early morning and rain did not set in until the field had all completed their rounds, but a difficult cross wind ensured that the golfers did not have the easiest of conditions.

Steve Giles and his guest P Marshall set a cracking early pace of 43 points but could they hang on all through the day - in the morning their nearest rivals were Gary Sweet and partner Paul Selley just one point behind - if anything the wind freshened in the afternoon so it would be difficult to beat these scores and those pairs finished 1st and 2nd, but Dennis Barton and Gary Homer, who were among the late starters, got very close but were beaten into 3rd place, with Jim Stein and James Mitchell in 4th place. Brian Shiel and Cyril Fedrick took the prizes for nearest the pin and James Mitchell for the longest drive.

Mens Guest Day Prize winners: Steve Giles P Marshall 43, Gary Sweet P Selly 42, Dennis Barton G Homer 42, Jim Stein J Mitchell 42, Barrie Evans J Foster 41, Andy Rowe M Symons 41, Gary Toms M Marshall 41, Paul Newman G Evans 41, John Scott C Rayment 40, Steve Pott J Webber 40, Steve Hobbs N Bassett 40, Colin Payne M Sutton 39, Mark Jeffery P Gerry 39, John Arnold A Richards 39.
