Polperro traders hit by the loss of banking services since the closure of the Barclays branch in the village on April 7, are to receive some help from Looe's Harbour Com-missioners.

The Looe and Polperro Chamber of Trade and Commerce recently contacted the Harbour Board enquiring if there was a possibility of a reserved parking space on the Buller Quay car park to conveniently enable shop keepers to use Barclays or other banks in Looe, the nearest facilities to the village. The difficulties of running a business during a busy season with no bank, and the frustration of then not being able to park and having to carry amounts of cash from the Millpool to East Looe was more than apparent to the Commissioners.

It was decided that although there were no reserved spaces available, the car park attendants are to be instructed to help the traders wherever possible if they are only banking, and that also the hourly parking charge of 30p per hour is not being increased along with other charges.

The Commissioners have also written to the Chief Constable of Devon and Cornwall, Sir John Evans, highlighting the Polperro problem and asking for a special facility for the port's traders to be allowed to park outside Barclays Bank in Fore Street, which is in a no waiting area of the town. They have also sent him a copy of the letter from the Chamber of Commerce.
