Deadline for

applications

RESIDENTS interested in serving as a town councillor to fill a vacancy left by Carole Andrews, should send written applications to town clerk Colin Easterbrook at the council offices at the Guildhall in East Looe, no later than noon on Thursday, January 17.

The town council will consider the applications and install a new councillor by co-option. This procedure is to be used as less than 10 people replied to the council's official notice calling for an election. A petition with 20 signatures had been handed into the electoral officer at Caradon Council, but there was confusion over the final date and the town council deemed it as too late by one day.

Plans on seafront

TWO important applications are scheduled to come before Looe Town Council's planning committee on Monday, from which views will be forwarded to Caradon planners. Both are in the area of the town's seafront.

The RNLI plan is for the proposed inshore lifeboat station and crew facilities together with modification of both beach and river slipways.

Mr Allan Stone, proprietor of the Admiral Boscarn, Higher Market Street, East Looe, is applying for the construction of a third storey to the building to provide two apartments with dormers and balconies.

Help needed

with blooms

THE small and hardworking group who make up Looe in Bloom are well into plans for this year's flower displays, but are in need of extra help once the flowers are in place.

Bloomer Roger Perkins would like to hear from anyone with a few hours to spare a week who lives in the vicinity of the boat displays at St Martin' BT Exchange, boats and saddle boxes in Station Road, the Health Centre or taxi rank, the amusement arcade boat at Bridgend, West Looe, or St Mary's on the seafront.

He is hoping people will come forward to help look after the flowers in these locations, or could offer to go out on the watering truck a couple of mornings or evenings a week.

Roger can be contacted on 01503 262658.

The Bloomers say with more help they can ensure Looe is kept well and truly on the South West's floral map.

Best lights

winners

AFTER much deliberation in the competition for best Christmas lights in Looe, which the judges say becomes more difficult each year, they came up with Looe Bakery, (shops), The Golden Guinea (restaurants) and Barbican Inn (pubs), as the winners in the category for festive appearance and presentation.

In artistic interpretation for dwellings the winners were Cmdr and Mrs Garbutt of Riverside Court, West Looe. The judges say that other outstanding efforts which were just pipped at the post were The Admiral Boscarn, Pendragon Gift Shop, Cancer Research Shop, Liebestraum, Endsleigh, Tremalic Flats and The Rectory.

The Lighting Committee wishes to thank all volunteers for their many hours of work and all the sponsors and donors.

Special thanks are due to all at Just Jennys, West Looe, whose roast chestnuts, mince pies and mulled wine, sold on the night of the 'grand switch on', raised £156 for the Children's Hospice South West.
