A HUGE range of items are being offered for auction in Looe on October 13 - in aid of the NSPCC.

The auction, of items from rounds to golf to computer software, and musical instruments to jewellery, will take place at the Barbican Inn, Barbican Road, East Looe at 8pm, with viewing from 7pm. The auctioneer for the event will be Ron Hards.

One of the top items on offer is a weekend in Paris on Eurostar, which will include two nights and three days - this only received this week.

Chamber car boot sales

LOOE, Polperro and district Chamber of Trade & Commerce are repeating their successful Sunday car boot sales at the far end of the Millpool car park, West Looe, starting on Sunday 14 October.

The sale, in aid of local community groups, will be followed by similar events on October 21 and 28 and November 4 and 18 at 10am-noon.

Edwina Arkell, Chamber chairwoman, says: 'We have been encouraged by requests to repeat the event.

Money raised earlier in the year supported Chamber activities, Looe in Bloom, Terry Wright, Looe Lugger Regatta, Looe Community School Arts College Status and St Martins church Restoration Fund.'

Other innovative projects planned for later in the year include a 'Welcome to Looe' shops and service guide and web site, and plans for a revamped Great Cornish raft race, family fun day on 9 June 2002.

Knights at school fayre

THERE were knights, damsels, archers, serfs and a colourful court jester at Looe County Primary school's Medieval fayre on Saturday 6 October.

On the playing field the Courteneye household demonstrated archery and combat.

They brought along a cannon - a replica of one which would have been used to defend the Barbican in days gone by.

Low flying seagulls were scared when the traction Trebuchet (a giant wooden slingshot) went into action. Slightly smaller missiles were hurled at the coconut shy while indoors games such as roll a penny, hoopla, splat the rat and apple bobbing kept parents and children amused.

The event raised money for school funds.

Thanks went to teachers, other staff members and friends of Looe County Primary who gave their time, dressed up and manned the various stalls.
