in better weather

Better weather has meant most of the fleet out on all days, although several boats landed on Plymouth market on Tuesday night, due to awkward tides at Looe. Although landings are still relatively small it has been a relief to all on the fish quay to be able to have a market each day.

Gigs need a

new home

LOOE Rowing Club are seeking temporary accommodation for their two gigs - Samphire and Ryder - while they are in the throes of organising a new home. The gigs have to leave their present shed as it is now unsafe. Anyone who can help should contact rowing secretary Pauline Tamlin on 01503 265204.

At a meeting held at the Sailing Club on Friday dates were set for the forthcoming year which includes taking part in the London River Race on September 15 in the form of a sponsored row, in support of the restoration appeal for St Martin's Parish Church. The club's vets. ladies crew took part about three years ago and successfully raised almost £1,000 for Breakthrough Breast Cancer, although it has not yet been decided which crew which participate this time. Sponsor forms will be available soon.

Other dates on the agenda are the annual meeting on Friday, March 30 at the Social Club, West Looe, at 8pm; the sailing regatta which will be part of the Lugger weekend on June 10; the rowing regatta on East Looe beach on August 18.

Age Concern

seeks a driver

THE Looe Age Concern group which has now been in existence for 16 years, is seeking a volunteer to come forward and help them out on Tuesday afternoons with transport. They already use the Lions mini bus but they need another driver. Other willing hands to help out with group activities would also be welcomed. Anyone who would like to help is asked to contact 01503 293358.

The group is associated with Age Concern Cornall and meets weekly at the Looe Social Club, where older residents are welcome to pop in and enjoy tea and biscuits, together with games or a social afternoon. There is sometimes a guest speaker and on the first Tuesday of the month a lunch is provided at Polvellan Manor at a very reasonable cost.

During the summer months outings are arranged and shopping trips to Truro and Plymouth. Age Concern Looe says it is not a club but a group of willing people who help the older generation with social and financial problems.

Lions' top class

fundraisers

THE Looe Lions are organising two fund raising events which they say will appeal to large sections of local audiences.

At the first, on Saturday, February 24, the Liskeard Musical Theatre Company will be performing their popular excerpts from the shows in cabaret style, at Looe Bay Holiday Park, in aid of the St Martin's Church Restoration Fund.

The Company supported the Lions fund raising a couple of years ago and perform during carnival week each year. Tickets will be on sale shortly at £4.50 (sen citizens £3).

Returning after the great success of the year 2000, will be the Lions Spring Ball at Killigarth, which is planned for Saturday, March 31. Terry Lightfoot and his Band have been booked and will bring with them their own unique jazz style which will include the sounds of big band hits and toe tappers. Support band will be local show band Brooklyn who were a great hit last year.Tickets at £21.75 will include a buffet,

music and dancing until 1am. More details of both events are available from Lion Brian Spring on 01503 272425 or Lion Bryan Norman on 01503 265690. Tickets are available at The Shell Shop, East Looe, or for from any Lion member.
