Looe lorry appeal for refugees

Looe Mayor Dave Bryan is heading the "Looe Lorry Fund" which has been set up by people of the town, to raise funds to send a lorry full of aid to the Kosovan refugees in Durres, Albania.

A lorry is already available from a church based group in Swindon, complete with voluntary driver, all that is needed is the money to fuel it on its long journey, which amounts to £3,700.

Hopefully, Looe, which is noted for its generous community, will soon have that in hand, after which the next task is to fill it with goods for the refugees.

Mr Malcolm Barker and his wife Janet, who visited the main port of Durres in Albania last year, will be contacting two refugee centres there to find out exactly what items are most needed, as the situation changes all the time. Once the town has that information it is hoped to fill the lorry as soon as possible, so it can be sent literally door to door, from the people of Looe to the people of Kosovo.

'Their need is our opportunity to help' says the mayor. 'We need the cash urgently'.

Cheques payable to the Looe Lorry Fund and cash can be sent to the mayor, Dave Bryan, of 1, Trenant Road, East Looe, PL13 1EN, or passed into the opticians in Fore Street. For people living at the Barbican end of town, donations can be passed into the Barbican Newsagency on Barbican Parade.

More cash and cheque collection points will become available soon so residents are advised to look out for posters.
