LOCAL growers and producers looking for ways to promote their wares during the pandemic have formed a new hub online.

Liskeard Hive Live is the place to find out about the independent local producers who are still very much active and at work, even though many of the markets where they would usually sell have had to be cancelled for the time being.

The Liskeard Hive Live Facebook page was started by Adele Corrin, a former market gardener and a passionate believer in locally produced food and drink.

Adele would normally be getting ready to support the Liskeard Food Market, which would have taken place this coming weekend – but instead she’s encouraging people to visit the page and order direct from the traders by following links to their own websites. She’ll be running a “click and collect” service at the Liskerrett Centre for anyone that’s ordered before Saturday (November 14).

Adele is also urgently on the lookout for an empty retail space in Liskeard where a “shop front” to highlight local produce could be created.

“Local is always best – it’s fresh and it supports the local economy,” she said.

“Small scale producers here would normally be doing markets in the South East and North Cornwall area, but a lot of these markets aren’t running at the moment.

“These traders need somewhere to showcase their produce for Christmas. Potentially they’re facing having to waste their goods if they can’t sell them.”
