Prince Charles set for visit
The Trust owns a number of sites of historic importance, including the l9th century Treffry viaduct in Luxulyan Valley, and manages seven sites for English Heritage, including the Hurlers on Bodmin Moor and Trethevy Quoit near St Cleer.
Prince Charles, who will be visiting the museum in River Street at 2.25pm, will also be told of plans to erect a memorial to the late historian, A L Rowse, close to Black Head, near Trenarren.
Pupils win a London trip
A total of 42 competing projects from over 20 schools were recently displayed at County Hall in Truro in the Duchy of Education awards - with Liskeard community college team chosen to go to the House of Lords on July 8 when overall winners and runners-up in each category will be announced.
The Liskeard team, who entered the under 16s category, presented work on storage systems for CDs and won a certificate of merit. The scheme is organised by In Pursuit of Excellence, a private/public sector partnership which promotes the best of Cornwall. The winners will be presented with their awards by the Bishop of Truro at a House of Lords reception hosted by Lord St Levan.
More plants under glass at Eden
Yesterday (Thursday 13th May), the Lord Lieutenant of Cornwall Lady Mary Holborow officially opened the new greenhouses at The Eden Project's nursery at Watering Lane.
The new greenhouses, whose combined acreage is already longer than any of the main plant houses at Kew, will provide desperately-needed extra space for the Project's growing plant collection.
A later election
The Calstock parish council election was postponed due to the death of Mr Leslie Davy, one of the four candidates contesting the three available seats. New nominations can now be accepted up until midday on May 20 and a new election date has been fixed for Thursday, June 17.
