Staff and volunteers at Cornwall Hospice Care have chosen nine Cornish places to feature on the healthcare charity’s Christmas cards this year, including Fowey and Minions. The images were selected from a wide range of suggestions and include Lanyon Quoit, St Michael’s Mount, St Ives, Godrevy, Lizard Point, St Just in Roseland, Gribbin Head, Fowey and Minions.

It’s hoped the 2021 range that also includes traditional and humorous cards, will help raise £70,000 for the charity, enough to fund two nurses for a year. Tracey Preston who manages the charity’s St Austell town centre shop, chose St Just in Roseland. She said: “This is one of my favourite places and where I got married, it’s also very beautiful.”Two of her shop volunteers also chose winning scenes; Ann Honey went for St Michael’s Mount and Lynne Edens nominated Fowey.Clinical administrator Becky Hooper and volunteer services coordinator Jenny Wilkins who are based at Mount Edgcumbe Hospice and Francesca May who manages the Bodmin Donation Centre, all nominated Gribbin Head.

Lizard Point was suggested by Operational Nursing Lead Ally Hardman who said: “I absolutely love to sit in the caféat Lizard Point watching the sea crash over the rocks on a blustery day. It’s a place where I can remember my sister who passed away and I’m delighted to see our card features a Robin.”Angela Flamank who manages the charity’s Fundraising Groups was successful in suggesting St Michael’s Mount and Godrevy: “These are my favourite places and I know they’ll sell well as these areas are so popular.”Paul Brinsley, chief executive at Cornwall Hospice Care, says asking the staff andvolunteers for their suggestions brought some cheer in a tough year: “When we asked for suggestions it gave everyone the chance to think about something other than COVID-19. Our teams have worked so hard over the last 18 months, so we were delighted with the response and it’s good to see some of the ideas turn in to cards.

I hope the Cornish scenes will not only raise money for our charity, but bring cheer to those who receive them.”The cards are now on sale in all Cornwall Hospice Care charity shops and on the charity’s eBay site.
