Local agencies and volunteers litter-picked their way across Par beach’s sands to show support for World Environment Day.
World Environment Day encourages worldwide awareness and action for the protection of the environment. The theme for 2018 is beating plastic pollution, so the clean-up at Par helped raise awareness of the importance of looking after Cornwall’s beaches, wildlife and sea and encouraged people to take their rubbish home with them.
The local agencies within Safer St Austell taking part in the beach clean included Cosgarne Hall, Addaction, Community Safety from Cornwall Council and the Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service.
Volunteers from Friends of Par Beach also litter-picked and local charity St Austell Community Kitchen (STAK) gave their support by providing a picnic.
