To mark 100 years of women’s right to vote, a mobile listening booth telling stories of women’s activism in the South West is touring the region, and its next stop is Cornwall’s Regimental Museum in Bodmin.
Designed like a voting booth, the Listening Booth is part of a project called Rebellious Sounds which has been created by Dreadnought South West, an organisation that collects and tells previously untold stories of women past and present.
People visiting the booth will be able to hear audio oral history material from an archive of stories of women’s activism that is being collected by the project.
The aim is to inspire people to find out about their heritage and personal connections to the women’s right to vote campaign of 100 years ago.
Museum director Mary Godwin said: ‘Our museum has traditionally mostly told the stories of men at war, so we’re delighted to host this exhibit that looks at the impact for women on important issues and campaigns 100 years on from the time of the suffragettes.’
The booth will be in the Old Recruiting Office at Cornwall’s Regimental Museum between Saturday, April 14 and Thursday, April 26 and is free to visit.
