Chance to be the
pride of Liskeard
THE Lions are reminding all the youngsters in Liskeard aged between 4-13 that the time is soon arriving when they will have their chance to enter the competition for the choosing of the Fairy Queen and two attendants.
The event takes place at the Royal British Legion Club in Barn Street on Friday, May 10, at 7pm, when there will also be a disco.
The lucky trio will then head the Liskeard Carnival procession on June 22, and will also be expected to represent the town at other local carnivals.
The Lions Club sponsor the Fairy Queen with £100 and the attendants with £75 each to help pay for their regalia.
So come on girls and boys don't be shy, come and have a go at being the pride of Liskeard. And make sure you bring mum and dad or a responsible adult with you.
Entry forms are available from the Cornish Times reception office in Bay Tree Hill, and should be taken to the competition.
Advice over
bogus callers
THE Women's Section of The Royal British Legion welcomed PC Martin Bennett to talk on bogus callers at their meeting in Liskeard.
President Christine Pampling opened the meeting with the exhortation and asked members to stand to remember the late Queen Mother, their national president.
She also asked the ladies to think of chairman Carol Graves, who is still unwell and unable to attend the meeting.
PC Bennett, who is the crime prevention officer for East Cornwall, gave everyone food for thought on how to protect themselves from bogus-callers and house breakers.
The treasurer reported that last month's raffle raised £10.50 and the teas a further £3.70, going on to discuss the forthcoming arrangements for the national conference and resolutions to be voted on.
The president announced that Harold Snowden would next month be visiting to give a film show.
Charity shop
The Rotary and Inner Wheel clubs of Liskeard and Looe are continuing their fundraising efforts to help local charities, including St John Ambulance, which does so much voluntary work in the community, and Macmillan Nursing Service. The clubs are holding a Charity Shop at Stuart House on April 29, 30, and May 1, between 10am and 4pm. Goods for the shop are welcome, helping to raise money for very worthy charities.
