Poppy appeal
CHRISTINE and Norman Pampling, as Poppy Appeal organisers would like to thank the people of Liskeard and district for the contributions they have given to this year's Poppy Appeal. The collection and sale of poppy wreaths amounted to £8,580.39.
They would also like to thank all the collectors who stood on street corners and walked around all the housing estates with their collecting boxes.
It is Christine and Norman's final year as organisers and so for the last time they would like to sincerely thank all those who have provided them with dedicated support over the years, and hope the same encouragement will be shown towards their successor.
Sale for cats
CALLINGTON Cats Protection are holding a sale at Liskeard Long Room on Saturday from 9am until 1pm.
There will be a variety of stalls including CP new goods, bric-a-brac, books and crafts, and CP Christmas cards and diaries.
Tea and coffees will be served with biscuits. Entry is free but donations of cat food are welcome.
Callington Cats Protection are also holding a bric-a-brac stall at St Cleer Memorial Hall on Saturday from 11am until 3pm. Both sales are being held in aid of Callington and District Cats Protection.
The next Long Room sale will be held on January 12.
Bids for grants
TWO grant submissions have been prepared to obtain funding towards Liskeard Public Hall's audio system.
The bids are to be submitted to the Single Regeneration Budget and the Arts Lottery.
Quick response
COUNTY Highways acted at double quick speed on Sunday - after being notified around 9.30am by town councillor Nick Mallard that granite paving stones and blocks on The Parade were dangerously loose.
Mr Mallard was on The Parade at the time with other town councillors, taking down the old hanging baskets. He said by the time he returned to The Parade area around noon, for lunch, County Highways staff had been and made a temporary repair.
Mayor's carols
THE Mayor of Liskeard, Tony Powell, is to hold the mayor's annual carol concert on Sunday, December 9, in the Public Hall at 3pm.
Admission will be free and there will be refreshments, and a raffle in aid of the new Respite Centre at the former BT site in Liskeard. Among those contributing to the carol service will be Liskeard Silver Band, Liskerett Male Voice Choir and Liskeard Ladies Choir.
Clock repairs
THE Guildhall clock in Liskeard has been serviced, but town councillors have been told that two small holes, believed to be from an air gun, were found on its west face.
A quote was received to replace two affected diamond shaped sections of glass in the clock with opal perspex early next year, this to be carried out with other repairs which had already been agreed.
New flagpole
A REPLACEMENT flagpole has arrived for the Public Hall in Liskeard, the previous flagpole having been damaged by a lorry.
