Garden walk to
back Peru trek
WENDY Tregilgas, who is originally from the Liskeard area, is set to undertake a trek in Peru next year for the Cancer Research Campaign.
In order to help her find the minimum £2,500 she needs to join the group - who are to travel to Machu Picchu, Cusco, the archaeological capital of the Americas - her family have undergone their own fundraising. They have persuaded the Commonmoor and Friends group to arrange a garden walk in Commonmoor on Sunday afternoon July 15, with the proceeds going towards Wendy's sponsorship.
Wendy, who now lives in Cheltenham, will be present for the occasion, to thank all those opening the gardens, or touring them.
Her mother, Elaine Tregilgas of Commonmoor, said there will be eight to ten gardens open between 1.30-6pm. Tickets will cost £1 and can be purchased at whichever garden is the first visited. All gardens taking part will be marked with an 'Open' sign. Cream teas will be served at Windsor Place, which will be open until 7pm, and there will also be plant sales there, this being the home of Elaine and her husband Fred.
While in Peru following the famous Inca Trail, Wendy will not only have to take on the hard trekking, but will also have to combat mountain sickness as the 'walk' reaches an altitude of over 4,000 metres above sea level.
New Liskeard Lions president takes office
JOHN Goldsworthy, President of Liskeard Lions Club, handed over the reins to Richard Brown at an informal fancy dress buffet Changeover Evening at Menheniot Village Hall. Richard was accompanied by his wife, Maria, and Terry Sully was compere for the evening.
The Lions club have also announced that they have cancelled this year's marathon walk over Bodmin Moor after taking into consideration the foot and mouth situation.
Apologies have been made to the many walkers who support the annual event.
