Chamber is

looking forward

THE annual meeting of Liskeard's Chamber of Commerce will be held on January 22 in the Lord Eliot Hotel at 7.30pm, when all members will meet to discuss future plans, and reflect on the year 2000.

The Christmas lights and decorations have been stowed away for another year, the final Chamber task in a year which included launching their http://www.liskeard.com">www.liskeard.com website, publishing the Liskeard Shoppers Guide, reducing business rates and an increase of membership to 140.

Secretary Jane Pascoe said the Chamber has been encouraged by support from the community and town and district councils, and through the town forum it has worked in partnership with these bodies to help start regenerating the town centre.

She added: 'The Chamber recognises the town has undeveloped potential and intends to continue to work hard to promote the commercial development of Liskeard.

Many new businesses have relocated to the immediate area, but more investment needs to be encouraged to provide skilled employment for the local community. This year we intend to continue to work together to provide a wider range of goods and services to attract the shoppers back to the town centre. For further information about joining the Chamber you can visit the website http://www.liskeard-chamber-of-commerce.co.uk">www.liskeard-chamber-of-commerce.co.uk or contact any member identified by their Chamber window sticker.'

A fitness day

A QUADROBATHON, which will include aerobics, step exercises, body combat and aqua fit, is to be held at Liskeard's Lux Park leisure centre to raise money for a charity trek through Peru.

The event is being organised by personal trainer, Janine Burns of Saltash. One of her customers asked for help raising money for a l00 km Peruvian walk in May 2001 for the charity SCOPE, and the Quadrobathon on February 25 is the result of this request.

The event will also raise funds for the Meningitis Trust, which is a charity close to Janine's heart as she suffered from the illness as a child. Anyone wishing to take part in the llam-3.45pm Quadrobathon, for which the registration fee will be £15, can pick them up at the Leisure Centre or from Fitness for Sport, 142 Cornwall Street, Plymouth.

Anyone raising £50 or more will have their registration fee refunded, while those raising £100 or more will get a free T shirt and their registration fee refunded.
