Plan for 25 homes
LISKEARD town councillors have given their support for an application by Wimpey Holdings Ltd to construct 25 detached dwellings and garages on land at the lower school site, formerly the grammar school.
The application also includes the construction of a new access to the highway at Liskeard lower school, Old Road, thought by councillors to be for pedestrians and emergency vehicles. The backing was given with the condition that a play area is provided on the site.
There had been some concerns about density, but it was pointed out by Nick Mallard that the number of homes involved per hectare is less than suggested under new Government guidelines.

Search for more
sporting land
A SEARCH by Liskeard and district sports association to find land on which to site further rugby, football and cricket pitches and perhaps an athletics track has been outlined to Liskeard town councillors.
At their meeting on Tuesday the councillors were asked to give their support for the association's acquisition of land for additional playing fields.
It was said the need for the land has arisen because of demand for playing space from the number of youngsters wishing to participate in such sports.
It was said the association's committee has identified land along Coldstyle Road at the end of the entrance to the sports club, although this is included in the local plan for housing.
It is agricultural land which would need to be levelled. The meeting heard if the land could be acquired, a number of grants would probably be available.
Speeding
concerns
CONCERNS from residents in Liskeard's Trevanion Estate about speeding cars were highlighted at Tuesday's Liskeard town council meeting.
Mike Gillbard said the residents were worried about vehicles speeding over the blind brow of the hill from Plymouth Road, and said it is hoped measures to counteract this could be included in the road scheme for Liskeard.
