WRVS to go tea potty

The WRVS is going tea potty this spring. On March 1 WRVS volunteers and supporters around the country will be hosting 'Mad Hatter's Tea Parties' to help raise funds for the charity.

WRVS is hoping to encourage over 400 other clubs and groups across Britain to join in with the event and organise tea parties that include attractions such as local celebrities, tea dancing, tea tasting and plenty of mad hats.

Callington Cats

The Callington and District Branch of The Cats Protection have their monthly fund raising event booked for Saturday, February 5 at Liskeard Long Rooms, running from 9am until 1pm.

Many items will be on sale to help raise funds for the cats in care, including CP new goods,a craft stall, a toy stall, a book stall and a good quality bric-a-brac stall.

Entry is free but donations of cat food are always welcome. The following sales are at the Long Rooms on March 11 and April 8. For more information please contact Val on 01579 363192.

TRACEY Thompson of Liskeard has graduated with a 2:1 BSc Honours degree in Environmental Science from the University of Plymouth. An ex pupil of Callington School the award represents a culmination of six years of study. She studied with the Open University for five years before joining the final year of the degree programme at Plymouth in September 1998. A keen local musician performing with Liskeard Silver Band and Liskeard Musical Theatre Company, Tracey is now working as a Community Links Voluntary Officer with the British Trust of Conservation Volunteers, carrying out environmental projects in the South Hams area.

Theft from jeep at Colliford lake

Liskeard police are asking members of the public to think back to the days between Christmas and New Year's Eve, as they are investigating the theft of items totalling £900 from a jeep on December 28 last year.

The vehicle, a T registration Mitsubishi, was left parked and unattended at Colliford lake and dam near St Neot, and the theft occurred between 12.30-2.30pm after a rear window was forced.

Items taken included unopened Christmas presents, items of clothing and an attache case with documents and cheque books. Since the theft some of the items have been recovered at St Breward on Bodmin Moor. Anyone with information should contact PC John Frazer at Liskeard police station by telephoning 0990 777 444.
