A LISKEARD Rainbows group has been forced to close its doors after losing a volunteer – leaving young girls without a weekly group to learn, make friends and have adventures.

1st Liskeard Rainbows, which has been running since 2024, is now urgently appealing for an adult volunteer to help get the group back up and running.

The group supports girls aged four to eight, helping them develop life skills, confidence and friendships through activities, games and adventures. But one of its volunteers had to leave in June because of work commitments, meaning the group has been unable to continue.

The leader of 1st Liskeard Rainbows said the closure was particularly disappointing because of the impact it was having on the girls.

“They are now missing out on life skills and friendships,” she said. “We desperately need a volunteer who can do just 90 minutes a week to work with the girls and help them grow.”

She said volunteering could be hugely rewarding, particularly watching the girls develop as they progress through Rainbows.

The group is looking for someone aged over 18 who is reliable and willing to give just 90 minutes each week. Volunteers do not need previous experience, with Girlguiding providing training and a DBS check.

The leader said volunteers can contribute as much or as little as they are able, with support available throughout.

The Rainbows group plays an active role in the wider Liskeard community, taking part in events including the town carnival, parades, fairs and fundays, as well as organising fundraising activities.

However, it cannot return until another volunteer comes forward.
