As residents of Dupath, Callington, we are highly embarrassed by the major road pilot scheme being implemented in the "rat run", Dupath Road.
The volume of commuter traffic using this road has increased over many years, causing many minor accidents and also aggravation to the residents of this area.
Cornwall Highways has decided to use this road as a pilot scheme, making a section of it "access only" and laying a grass grid area at each end of the road and for a section in the middle, thus fooling the 11,000 car drivers who would normally use the road each week that it is "only an entrance to private property".
We are amazed that so much public money can be put into such a scheme, just one year after concern being raised, when money cannot be found to improve the A388, the main north-south route through Callington.
There, in Launceston Road, people's lives, particularly children's lives, are at risk every day as they have to use a pavement which is only wide enough for one person.
This pavement serves the community college, with its 1,100 students, and also serving housing estates and, as such, it is the, most serious blackspot in Callington.
How long before a child is going to be seriously injured or killed there?
We feel that Cornwall Highways have their priorities wrong in this instance and we know that many of our local councillors agree with us.
Although we want to see Dupath Road made safer, we do hope that funding will soon be available to improve Launceston Road before there is a serious accident there.
Our local council has been asking for improvement there for many years.
