May I again through your letter page let the residents of St Cleer know of yet another problem which needs to be addressed. Horizon Play Area was rebuilt and refurbished with the help of parents and the St Cleer Parish Council. Recently following a period of gradual vandalism it was again brought up to standard, i.e. renewed pieces of equipment, repairs and many tons of woodchip wheelbarrowed into place.
Following some minor damage reported to me, I was dismayed to find on inspection (Sunday 26th March), that vandals had further damaged both the large pieces of equipment, the picnic table, seat and even tore up sections of the retaining edges used to keep the chips in place. These items plus large pieces of masonry all thrown inside the climbing frame.
The particular attack was not the result of the youngsters who I now enjoy and appreciate this facility, but the wanton destruction caused by a much older element. As the area was strewn with empty lager/beer cans I can only assume what happened.
The police were contacted and are taking steps which could lead to the culprits being prosecuted.
The damage will be repaired this time but any more attacks of this nature and the Parish Council will have no alternative but to close it.
These attacks are not carried out in silence and I would appeal to anyone who hears or sees any thing to contact the police, if not, the enjoyment of the majority will be lost by the actions of the minority.
J.F. SHEER
Chairman, St Cleer Parish Council.
