Members of Liskeard Cricket Club would like to thank all who have contributed to the success of the car boot sales on Fridays. However, we make a plea that all strictly adhere to the opening times: that is 3.30pm for sellers and 4pm for buyers. Last Friday, one selfish seller parked opposite the cricket field gate at 2.45pm and refused to move. Traffic built up behind him, some cars passed him, others including school buses had to wait. Consequently the gate was opened to relieve the congestion. Our groundsmen had to stop preparing the wicket and put ropes up to contain the queues. The wicket preparation had to be finished on Saturday morning. We advertise our car boot sales with gates open at 3.30pm because the groundsmen need until 3.30pm to prepare the outfield and wickets. Also our marshals who maintain order in the field can not come until 3.30pm because of other commitments. The actions of one man caused unnecessary anxiety and stress to the volunteers of Liskeard Cricket Club. Should people continue to arrive and expect to enter the cricket field before 3.30pm then we shall seriously think about ending the car boot sales. Please note that on Friday, July 14, the car boot sale will be held in the Liskeard School field to support their summer fair. We shall use the entrance gate on the St Cleer road.
