GINSTERS of Callington, who last week announced a huge investment in its Lynher Bakery, and the creation of 80 more jobs, have confirmed that they will be shutting the Callington part of the ready meal side of their business, and transferring it to Leicester.

A spokeswoman for the firm said that the ready meal plant at Callington had always been a pilot scheme, and it had been known by staff that the intention was always to transfer it to Leicester.

She said that there was no intention, however, to cut jobs.

Staff affected would be given the chance of moving to Leicester. If they did not want to do this they would be absorbed into the rest of the business on the Callington site, this including Lynher Bakery which produces branded pasties, slices and savoury snacks, or Tamar Bakeries which deals with own label pastry products for major retailers.

She said that at the moment she could not give a date for the transfer.

Ginsters announced last week that a total of 80 new jobs would be created at its Callington site over a period of five years.

This followed the announcement of a £10.75 million re-vamp of the Lynher Bakery to take in re-organisation of production flow, the use of computerised ovens and specialised cooling systems, and the introduction of new packaging technology such as high-tech wrapping machines.

Ginsters is owned by Famworth Brothers.
