IN this week’s Cornish Times, in shops from today (Friday), we lead with the news that the South West Lakes Trust has called a halt to boating activities in Siblyback Lake that are enjoyed by disabled people from Liskeard’s Echo Centre.

The trust says that the waterspouts business that runs the activities isn’t making enough money – but those from the centre are angry and disappointed. Read their reasons and the trust’s response.

Concerns over the safety of a South East Cornwall level crossing have prompted a proposal to move a soon to be replaced footbridge to our area from Devon.

We have pictures from an event where Looe’s rowers took on runners taking part in the town’s 10-miler fun run, and there is more about this event in this week’s issue’s nine pages of sport. We also report that a woman from the town is to take part in a biker relay in France to highlight the role that women have in motorsports.

Meanwhile, on the area’s beaches volunteers from the Royal Navy and other organisations have cleared 350 bags of rubbish from one area of seashore, walkers heading to Looe island stumbled across the remarkable sight of a baby shark hatching from its egg sack and took photos, and some of the area’s dog beach bans are to be reviewed.

For this week’s Nature Watch column, Ray Roberts has been along the old Liskeard & Caradon Railway trackbed to give use more lovely pictures and also to tell us a bit about its fascinating history, as well as some facts about those troublesome little creatures, moles.

We also have some tips to help encourage children to get off their computers and out into the garden.

This week’s issue also has three pages on farming matters, a report from the successful East Cornwall Point to Point event at Great Trethew, pictures and reports from your community events, pantos and youth theatre productions and regular columns like your letters, TV Choice, Recipe of the Week and latest books.

There is all this and more in this week’s packed Cornish Times, in shops from today.
