This week’s three packed Cornish Times editions – the main edition, Saltash edition and Bodmin edition – all come with a special eight-page supplement in which Sports editor Nigel Walrond gives readers the latest news from Cornwall and Devon’s ‘Big Guns’ football and rugby teams of Plymouth Argyle, the Cornish Pirates and Exeter Chiefs. The supplement contains in-depth interviews covering these teams’ exciting plans for the future.
As for other news, all three editions lead with moves to improve road safety with the installation of new speed cameras being considered along the main arterial link across South East Cornwall, the A38.
In addition, in the main edition we have pictures and a write-up on a production by Callington Community College students which has been described as ‘magical’ .
In the Saltash edition we report that an award received by Saltash Heritage Museum has been made into a special jigsaw to thank the 65 volunteers who helped to achieve the accolade. We also report that a thriving Saltash band has issued an appeal for a new tuba player to join its ranks, and that more organisations have joined the town’s bid to go ‘Plastic Free’.
In the Bodmin edition we have the story that a wartime chess set in the collection of the Cornwall Regimental Museum is in the running for the ‘Object of the Year’ accolade in Cornwall’s heritage awards. North Cornwall Conservative MP Scott Mann also tells readers about his plans to champion the Bodmin 2030 future vision initiative for the town in Parliament.
In other news across all editions, we have words and pictures on a Swimathon event that raised more than £5,000 for good causes, and several pages of pictures of youngsters taking part in Cornish Times-sponsored cross-country races at Cotehele in the Tamar Valley.
We also report on new cycling and walking trails that are due to open up the magnificent countryside and views of the Rame Peninsula to a wider audience. We also have special features giving job-hunting tips to those seeking a new career as we enter a new year, and on how the historic Grain Store in Liskeard has been given a magnificent makeover and adapted to a new use.
As ever, we also have lots of your community news and pictures – including some of a ‘mind-blowing’ trip to the Harry Potter Studios enjoyed by children at Pelynt School – and regular columns such as Ray Roberts’ Nature Watch, your Letters, TV Choice and the latest Books.
There are also Farming, Property and Motoring pages and, in addition to the special supplement already mentioned, our usual 11 packed pages of Sport. Find all of this and more in this week’s Cornish Times editions, in shops from today (Friday).
