Cornwall Council’s emergency management team are urging people to staff safe, warm and inside following the latest weather warnings for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
From midnight tonight through to Sunday snow and ice is forecast for Cornwall and from midnight on Sunday to Monday ice is predicted.
People are advised not to travel during these times unless absolutely necessary.
CORMAC gritters have already been out and about on precautionary salting routes.
High winds are also expected causing big waves on south coast. A special appeal is also being made for people to avoid coastal areas and wave watching, which can put lives at risk. High tides are between 6am and 9am on Sunday.
People are encouraged to stay warm and think about any vulnerable neighbours who might be affected by the sudden drop in temperature as it could go as low as -5 degrees.
The council is continuing to work with Cornwall Housing, and other organisations who work with rough sleepers in Cornwall, to provide emergency accommodation and other services.
Cornwall Housing is providing an emergency only service for emergency repairs and homelessness queries on 0300 1234 161 as temperatures reach below zero.
Residents concerned about someone sleeping rough can also contact Streetlink – a 24/7 website, mobile app and phone line which allows anyone who has a concern, to send out an alert about the location of someone sleeping rough.
