HMS Raleigh’s swimming gala, organised by Leading Physical Trainer Yaroslav Tychyna, consisted of six mixed ability teams, enjoying an afternoon of competitive fun in front of a large crowd.

The event drew competitors from a number of schools and courses including chefs, stewards, aircrewmen, writers and submariners, with a presence from both Crean Division (the rehabilitation unit for those who have suffered injury or illness during training) and Holdover (recruits waiting for their respective branch specific training to start).

All six teams were evenly matched and raced valiantly throughout, said organisers.

Team 5 (Aircrew and Crean Division) took the overall championship trophy.

LPT Tychyna said: ‘It was good to see such a good turnout with just under 100 phase 2 recruits present at the event.’

The event VIP, Commander David Martin, presented the trophy and congratulated everyone on their performance.
