Neighbours have pulled together after a landslip cut off a residential area of a town.
Around 1000 tonnes of earth and a tree fell into the narrow Scrations Lane in Lostwithiel on Friday, cutting off vehicular access to around 30 houses.
No-one was injured in the landslide, and Cornwall Council engineers assessed the situation as presenting no danger to properties or people.
But the event presented a problem to those whose vehicles were left stuck behind the landslip and the works which is now set to be carried out to make the bank safe.
One community-minded family have gone beyond the call of duty and have volunteered to have their garden bulldozed to allow cars to get through.
Cornwall Councillor for Lostwithiel Colin Martin said the reaction from local people and local authority staff had made him ‘proud to represent both Cornwall Council and the people of Lostwithiel’.
There will be more about the incident in this week’s Cornish Times, out in Friday.
