Many thanks to Stephanie and her hard working committee for the opportunity to view the proposed designs for the distraction of motorist at Carkeel roundabout.
I did not notice any provision for a warning light on the top or where the mobile telephone transmitter aerials were to be housed. Also it appears from the designs presented that it is not going to be easy to incorporate a viewing platform.
With regard to materials, the large chunk of bronze proposed will play havoc with the TV signals but it will provide a wonderful climbing frame for our older children. The angel of the North had a Newcastle striped shirt placed upon it; what will the lads of Saltash drape upon The Cross?
Fibre and glass construction has only been with us for about 40 years and delamination plus cracking due to use of the hardeners are readily viewed on many boats.
The use of Cornish Granite dressed blocks would enable the materials to be recycled in twenty years time.
One design resembles a windmill. Maybe that's not a bad idea; a wind turbine disguised as a Celtic Cross. That would give the Planning Dept some food for thought. The wind vein design looks as if it will whistle in the wind but most designs will provide a collection point for the Tamar Bridge starlings.
Yes, I have had ideas of what to do. Cornwall County Hall sent me a detailed pamphlet some three years ago requesting ideas for a Millennium project for Cornwall. I decided to try and be clever and think up a project which would satisfy all of the outlined objectives which they listed.
I sent it off and had a glowing letter stating what a good idea it was.
They only asked for ideas so when they suggested a long string of actions I should take, I filed the data in the W.P.B.
