Division One West

Both teams had key players missing for this game, but it was Callington who adapted to the situation – and the freezing cold, and windy conditions – to deservedly take all three points at Lantoom Park.

The result knocked Dobwalls off of second spot, while Callington – who moved up to fourth – are now just two points behind them with three games in hand.

Callington boss Micky Hunt was a well satisfied man, saying: 'We were happy with the victory, especially as the results in the Division tended to go for us.

'It was an ugly win as we had to battle our way through the game, but it was a honest contest between two committed sides and, in Chris Clarke, we had the best players on the pitch – for a 17-year-old he was head on shoulders above everyone else.'

Dobwalls' joint boss Martin Hake found the absence of almost half his squad a bridge too far.

'We had to make too many changes and that affected the fluency of our play as unfortunately those missing were key players,' he said.

'Top-scorer Martyn Hake, defenders Jeff Dillon and Dan Tapper, plus midfielders Danny Murdoch and Barry Crane, were all out – and that makes one hell of a difference.

'It will be an entirely different game when we meet again, as both sides will be fielding a much-changed line-up as they had players missing as well.'

A lesser referee than Plymouth-based official John Haynes would probably had a host of cautions in his book, as this was a typical derby played with passion and, although several hard challenges were made, he refereed with common sense.

Callington might have had the majority of the possession in the first half, but it was their hosts who created the better chances, goalkeeper Dan Johnson making a fine triple save to deny Matt Barton, Spencer Wilson and Steve Tapper.

The second period saw Callington take control, and it was no more than they deserved when they found the back of the home goal ten minutes after the break.

Craig Holt's fine right-wing cross was helped on by Dan Jefferis for Ryan Lucassi to launch himself through the air and head the ball powerfully past goalkeeper Ellis Glassup.

Another swift, and incisive move, saw Callington double their lead seven minutes later, as John Wyatt's great run down the right ended with him whipping a low cross into the near post, where substitute Gareth Jones arrived to crack the ball home from close-range.

Dobwalls came strong in the last 15 minutes, and were rewarded when Lee Beer handled in the area for Barton to convert the spot-kick, but Callington comfortably held onto their lead, and the points.
