VOLUNTEERS helping to clean up beaches on the Rame Peninsula in the coming two years will also be contributing data to a national survey.
The first survey into marine litter will be carried out at Polhawn Beach tomorrow (Saturday) from 2.30pm.
The Rame Peninsula Beach Care (RPBC) group has been asked to contribute to research being carried out by the Marine Conservation Society.
Baseline data into how much, and what types, of litter are found on Cornish beaches will help the Department for the Environment decide how best to tackle the problem, says Claire Wallerstein of RPBC.
‘We have been asked by the Marine Conservation Society to survey marine litter on a local beach four times a year over the next couple of years as part of nationwide surveying,’ she said.
‘Please do come along to help tomorrow if you can – we have to survey quite a large area!
‘But remember the path down to Polhawn is a bit tricky – only come if you are sure on your feet and wear sensible footwear.’
