Saltash had the better of the first half with Mike Southgate lobbing over the keeper in the 10th minutes only to see his shot go over the goal too.
This was followed a minute later by a shot from Mat Penry which went just wide. Brian Stacey and Darren Northcott saw efforts go wide or straight to Charles West.
However, Saltash went in front in the 24th minute when Mat Penry scored. Ashes went 2-0 up in 37th minute when Mat Penry's cross found Mike Southgate whose shot was parried by the Torpoint keeper, but Matt Latham was on hand to follow up and score.
Andy Gale nearly scored an own goal to make it 3-0 when his clearance went just over the bar. Torpoint pulled a goal back when Aaron Cusack crossed from the right wing, Charles West was able to punch clear but the ball fell to the unmarked Brian Stacey who slotted it home just before half-time.
In the early stages of the second half, chances fell to both sides. Mat Penry shot over the bar for the Ashes and Mike Roberts, who proved to be hard working all through the second half, also shot over the bar for Torpoint.
Mark Courts had a shot saved and Richard Daly headed over the bar. Mike Southgate broke through the Torpoint defence in the 73rd minute but his shot went just wide. Torpoint almost equalised when Mark Damerell's shot went across the goal a minute later.
They were even more unlucky when Simon Courts cleared a last ditch effort off the line in injury time.
