Saltash, still under the leadership duo of Chairman Mike Howard, and Alan Swift, managed their third win on the trot when they beat Newquay 2-0 in the league on Saturday.
The early chances fell to Newquay before Andy Green passed to Mike Southgate who shot wide for Saltash. Charles West was in top form, pulling off a number of saves from Sheridon, Sefton and Shane Hickling. On the half-hour mark, West and Leon Massie collided and West had to go to hospital to have stitches in a head at the end of the game, delaying the match for about eight minutes as they both received treatment. Sefton has a shot cleared off the line in stoppage time of the first half.
It was Saltash who took the lead two minutes into the second half after a cross from the left by Jon Pidgen was volleyed into the net by Matt Latham. After this, it was all Newquay as they pressurised for an equaliser. West pulled off three successive saves as shots were fired in by Massie, Sefton and McKune.
In the 60th minute, Phil Garland's shot was cleared off the line by the Newquay defender but only a minute later it was Newquay that hit the upright. Newquay's attack continued with Jodie Dean and Dominic Evans both hitting the side netting. However, with the game in stoppage time, Saltash scored for a second time through Mike Southgate as he was able to tap the ball into the net from a cross by Andy Green which has left the Newquay 'keeper stranded. Charles West was deservedly named man of the match.
