A YOUNG woman from Saltash has been chosen to front a national Prince's Trust campaign after beating unemployment with help from the youth charity.

Jade Anning will star in the Prince's Trust and RBS 'A-Z of Young Businesses', which celebrates young people who have bucked the trend of unemployment by setting up on their own.

Despite a tough start in life, 23-year-old Jade has opened her own beauty business. After living in care since the age of 13, Jade left school at 16 and moved into supported housing. She secured a place on a beauty therapy course and completed level 2, but had to pull out of the level 3 course due to financial difficulties.

Jade started working in offices and local public houses and, as soon as she could afford to, she went back to college and successfully completed the level three course.

Jade couldn't find work in beauty therapy due to her lack of experience, so became a carer in the community and then eventually found her dream job as a beauty therapist last year.

Jade said: 'I loved my new job and was so glad I was able to support myself by doing what I wanted to do, at last. Finally, it felt like things were going right for me.'

Amazing

However, Jade found herself unemployed when she was made redundant in January this year and was unsure what to do next.

Jade knew it would be difficult to find another job but was desperate to work as a beauty therapist again. She thought about setting up her own salon, but with no business experience, she didn't know where to start. She contacted the Prince's Trust and was given advice and guidance. Jade says: 'My mentor has been amazing. He works in marketing so has been able to help me promote the business to new clients. It makes a big difference to know he is always on the other end of the phone whenever I need some help.

'I feel so much happier now,' says Jade.

'I've always wanted to set up my own business and I'm really grateful to the Prince's Trust for helping me to make it happen.'

Ian Cowie, chief executive, business and commercial at RBS, said: 'At a time of high youth unemployment, it is more important than ever to ensure young people have the right support available. Jade has turned her life around since setting up her business and is a real inspiration to others struggling with unemployment.'
