A showcase of nature-based activities will take place at Castle Park tomorrow (Thursday 12th August) from 3pm to 7.30pm.

The event is free of charge and available to all to come and have a go whilst finding out more about providers offering a range of activities in the area. Active taster sessions and demonstrations include: nature trails, forest bathing, yoga, story-telling and natural navigation.

Castle Park is a once slightly tattered looking park in Liskeard that has been transformed into a beautiful space for residents and visitors to enjoy.

Small areas of wildflower meadow, fruit trees and flower beds have been created at Castle Park, and new seating, picnic furniture and paths have been installed.

Members of Liskeard Scouts, Cubs and Beavers have designed anti-littering posters which have been put up around the site.

A celebration event saw children from St Martin’s Primary School have a tour of the park with mayor of Liskeard Simon Cassidy and Councillor Martyn Alvey, portfolio holder for Environment and Climate Change at Cornwall Council. The children also built a bug hotel and planted wildflower seeds.

“Castle Park is looking fantastic and I was delighted to be able to see it for myself,” said Cllr Alvey.

“The park one of 24 spaces in seven towns we’re transforming as part of this exciting project that’s benefiting both nature and our local communities.”

The project is currently looking volunteers to help plant bulbs at Castle Park this autumn. Other volunteering opportunities are also available at the other Making Space for Nature sites. ?Anyone who would like to find out more can email [email protected] or call Becky, Cormac’s urban ranger, on 07796996351.
