DIVISION ONE

Gorran v Troon

Gorran's home game with Troon was delayed for an hour owing to rain and finally began as a 40 over match.

A further interruption for rain after half an hour's play reduced the game to 37 overs per side, after which the conditions improved to permit a good game played mainly in good sunlight.

Batting first, Gorran had reached 37 without loss after eight overs when the final shower caused a stop in play.

Although the covers were run out promptly some dampness evidently affected the pitch resulting in the loss of Rob Hurrell and Tom Bray-Smith almost immediately after play was resumed.

Opening batsman Matthew House and New Zealander Craig Davies (30) added a partnership of 73, before Robin Kendall joined House to add a further 80 runs in 11 overs.

Matt House reached his splendid century with his 19th boundary and was promptly well caught in the covers next ball by Gavin Tregenza.

Kendall and James Tomlinson then set about the bowling with an unbroken partnership of 74 runs. While Kendall was at the wicket, 108 runs were added in only 12 overs, beginning with Craig Davies and later with Tomlinson bringing Gorran to 268 for four at the end of the 37th over.

Robin Kendall's sparkling, unbeaten 85 contained eight fours and four towering sixes.

Gavin Tregenza (3-56) and Steve Eddy (1-50) were Troon's most successful bowlers.

Troon's predominantly young side set about their task adding 36 for the first wicket and 75 for the fourth, with Danny Mitchell hitting three sixes in his 47 and Karl Turner (36) also hitting quick runs.

Mark Jenkin hit two sixes in his 34 before being dismissed by 14 year old Rhys Daniel's diving catch.

Tom Rowe (12); Ian Golds-worthy (18); Dan Jenkin (12); James Rowe (25) and Mark Jenkin (Senior) (11) all contributed to the visitors' cause.

Troon scored exactly 100 runs in their last 13 overs, exposing Gorran's limited bowling resources whilst threatening to overtake Gorran's total, but they were checked by the loss of wickets, ending 26 runs behind on 242 for nine.

For Gorran, James Tomlinson took three for 45, while Robin Kendall and Craig Davies shared the similar figures of two for 48.
