The team behind a community history book starred in a BBC history competition.

Linkinhorne was featured on BBC Radio 4’s Making History programme earlier this week.

The South East Cornwall parish was part of the show’s ‘Top Town History’ contest, which pits places of very different sizes against each other.

It was featured because of the community history book Linkinhorne: The Story of a Cornish Parish, which dozens of local people pooled resources to produce.

With contributions from people across the community, the volume focuses on characters and aspects of the parish’s history from prehistoric times to the present day.

The first week in the Making History series saw Fort William against Reading. Fort William won and the Scottish town went on to win against Greenwich in the second programme too.

But Linkinhorne vanquished Fort William in this week’s episode, which featured an interview with the book’s editor, writer and journalist Simon Parker, who lives in Linkinhorne and came up with the idea for the project.

The parish will now feature again in next week’s programme (3.30pm on Tuesday, January 16

The book is available at the Book Shop in Liskeard.
