Native hedging has been planted at Siblyback Lake to improve habitats for wildlife.
A day of ‘back-breaking’ work by volunteers and wardens saw 120 metres of hedge planted along the edge of the overflow camping field, said warden for the South West Lakes Trust Nigel Tomkinson.
A further 170 metres of hedging will go in along the edge of the dog exercise field.
‘Once established, the hedge will form a valuable ecological link to the areas of open access, and improve habitats for wildlife,’ said Mr Tomkinson.
Traditional hedgerow species such as hawthorn, blackthorn, hazel and field maple were supplied through the Woodland Trust’s Hedgerow Grant scheme, and the standards such as oak and alder were also provided by the trust.
