Reading your newspaper I just had to put pen to paper.

It is a measure of civilisation how it responds to animals in need. Those kittens, dumped by some low life at one end of the scale, and the people who care, at the top end.

An animal can't say thank you or even smile, so it is heart warming to see such kindness in people. Only last week on TV we saw British Airways come to the rescue of a stranded dog and fly it to Canada. We've seen a mighty country like America quietly stop, and dig up a road, day and night, for some teeny-tiny puppy.

No money, no reward, such are every day heroes made of.
