Help and advice is available locally for anyone who cares for a relative or friend in an unpaid capacity.

The Kernow Carers Service runs meetings and support groups for volunteer carers throughout Cornwall - and there’ll be a meeting in Liskeard on Wednesday (March 18).

‘This is a free service for carers that gives them an opportunity to discuss the issues they face and have their voices heard in a welcoming and confidential environment, alongside others facing similar problems,’ said a spokesperson.

‘There are many people in our community who are unaware of the help they can get and who also may not recognise themselves as carers because they look after a family member or friend.’

Staff from Kernow Carers Service attend the meetings to give help and advice to carers, including making referrals to Carer Support Workers (CSWs). Support workers liaise directly with individual carers to help them with any issues they have, and to signposting them to benefits and services.

‘Where issues can’t be resolved at the meeting or by a CSW, we attend various other groups on carers’ behalf - such as the Carers Partnership Board - where we are able to highlight any concerns our members may have in regard to their caring role,’ the spokesperson added.

Wednesday’s meeting will be held  in the Emily Hobhouse Room, Liskeard Public Hall, Liskeard from 1.30 to 3.30 pm. For more information call 01872 243531.
