A NUMBER of students at Callington Community College have been told to self-isolate after it was confirmed that one young person has tested positive for Covid-19.
In a letter sent to all parents today, headteacher Wendy Ainsworth said that all who had been identified as having been in close contact with the individual have been asked to stay at home for 14 days. The school will stay open, said the head, and all other students should attend as normal, while they remain well.
Speaking to the Cornish Times, Ms Ainsworth said: “It has unfortunately been confirmed today that a member of our school community has tested positive for COVID-19. I can confirm that this member is a student and the family have worked with us to aid our response.
“After consultation with Public Health England we have sent home 30 students to self-isolate for 14-days. These are all students identified as ’close contacts’ through guidance with Public Health and the support of the family.
“For those pupils self-isolating, they will continue their education remotely. The College will
remain open as normal for all other pupils.
“We fully recognise that this will be both worrying and disappointing to our school community. We
would like to reassure everyone that we have a wide range of measures in place, and all actions and
decisions are made to ensure the safety and welfare of our pupils and staff.”
