DATA released by the Office of National Statistics (ONS) shows that some areas in South East Cornwall have so far escaped the worst consequences of the coronavirus pandemic.
A new interactive map published on the ONS website enables a search for Covid-19-related deaths by postcode area.
It shows that in Liskeard and Torpoint towns there have been no deaths from the disease. There has been one death in Bodmin, one in the Looe and Polperro area, and in Saltash, three people have died. In the Callington and Pensilva area there has been a cluster of five deaths.
The South West as a whole is among the areas of the UK with the lowest mortality rate from coronavirus.
In Cornwall the death rate from Covid-19 is 14 per 100,000 people, as compared to the hardest-hit parts of London with more than 100 deaths per 100,000.
As of today, the UK has had more than 28,700 deaths reported as due to the coronavirus and has the highest death toll in Europe.
A new contact-tracing app designed to target and prevent transmissions of the coronavirus is being piloted on the Isle of Wight from today, as the Government prepares for the possible relaxing of some of the lockdown measures.
