More blood donor sessions in South East Cornwall may be ended.

NHS Blood and Transplant is carrying out a review of sessions in the area surrounding Plymouth later this year - and says the number of sessions may be cut.

Concerns were raised at this month’s meeting of Saltash Town Council.

Tracy Wright, Head of NHS Blood and Transport Region West, said: ‘Hospital blood use is declining by 3-4% a year and this means that we regularly review where we hold our sessions.

‘It’s important that we do not waste precious donations by collecting too much blood.

‘Later this year we expect to start a review of our sessions around Plymouth.

‘We greatly value the generosity and commitment shown by our local donors and we will let them know more details soon.

‘We can confirm we may reduce the number of sessions we hold and also ask some donors to donate at alternative venues.

‘Blood donation saves lives and we would love to see our donors continuing to donate at all our available local sessions.’

Donor sessions were ended in Liskeard last year.
